Hearing Audiology- Hearing Diseases That Cause Hearing Loss

There are many different causes of one losing their hearing. In most cases the cause of one losing their hearing is preventable or at least treatable. However, some cases are caused by hearing diseases. This hearing audiology article will tell you about the different hearing diseases that can cause hearing loss.

Ménière's Disease is a disease that is typical in both men and women between the ages of 40-60. The disease can cause vertigo and tinnitus which can cause permanent hearing loss. The cause of this disorder is currently unknown, but it is thought to be caused when there is an imbalance of fluids in the inner ear

It can be difficult to cure this disease because your sense of balance and the fluids in your ears are closely related. It will not always be possible to treat the dizziness you are getting from vertigo at the same time as the hearing loss caused by tinnitus. It is possible for you to receive treatment for vertigo and have that actually cause permanent deafness.

Waardenburg Syndrome, WS, is a genetic disorder that can result in facial abnormalities. Someone who suffers from WS will have pigmentation problems on their facial skin, hair, irises of the eyes, and deafness. Deafness is caused by a malformation of the inner ear and using a hearing aid can help a person recover some of their hearing.

Mondini Syndrome or Mondini Dysplasia is responsible for hearing loss and is caused by a malformation. Mondini causes the cochlea of the ear to not fully form its spiral shape which leads to a flattened appearance. It is rare for Modini to be detected because a person rarely suffers complete deafness and can normally hear. One way to cure this disease is to receive cochlear implants to help improve hearing.

Treacher Collins Syndrome (TCS) or Mandibulofacial Dysostosis is a rare genetic disorder that causes facial distortions and abnormalities. Some of the common abnormalities are deformed or missing ears, eye and mouth misshapenness, and a small lower jaw. Hypoplasia causes this disease. It is common for people suffering from this disease to suffer hearing loss. One solution is for those with missing ears to use bone conduction hearing aids.

Amongst the many ways to lose ones hearing, hearing diseases can be especially troublesome. After reading this hearing audiology article you should now know the four most common hearing diseases and some basic knowledge of each disease.
